HEADS FALLING OFF TREES -
As Inuyasha, Kagome, Miroku, and Shippo look for more Sacred jewel shards they make a shocking discovery. They find a tree that instead of growing fruit, grows human heads. Not only that, but these heads can speak! They say that they had all tired of this world and had sought out a holy man on the mountain above for enlightenment, but only ended up being eaten by someone called the "Peach Man". He eats these poor souls to sustain his immortality. With a little prodding from Kagome, Inuyasha reluctantly agrees to put an end to the Peach Man's evil, but he might be biting off more than he can chew, because tonight is the one night of the month when his half-demon heritage transforms him into a full human, minus his demon powers! Also, in this volume we are introduced to another main character in the Inuyasha manga in the person of Sango, a young girl who hails from a village that makes its living from demon-slaying. It's a little too early to tell if she's going to help or hinder our heroes.
Rumiko Takahashi has again crafted an excellent story here in Volume 9, but that's nothing new. Inuyasha is still pretty much in his jerk phase, but with the addition of Sango, we're getting pretty close to ending the exposition and embarking on the main tale: namely, everyone wants to kill Naraku! The art is good, but the manga makes everybody look much younger that in the anime, and they look a little more cartoony, but that's fine. One thing in the manga that has been edited from the anime is the gore. Heads go flying here, people are eaten and torn to pieces. This is a great manga, because the focus of the battles in it center more on the feelings of the characters for each other. They care about about one another! So nothing ever seems pointless. Great manga.
I would recommend any manga by the great Rumiko Takahashi. She's not the richest manga-ka in Japan for nothing. Her works brim with great storytelling and likeable heroes.
